Making a trip to NJ tonight. I’m going to be lobbying for a fried turkey this year. Hopefully the hardware will be obtainable. This was popular on TV about 2 years ago. Needs a big stock pot, bunch of oil, a food syringe, and a hanger-type deal to dip the turkey in there. I’ve never had it, but every one I talk to says that it’s OH SO good. Also gonig to hang out with an old buddy of mine I haven’t seen in a LONG time. I lived on the same street as him from 1980-1984. Long time ago.

CRAP, Holy short term memory. I just stood up and thought of a website to look at for some reason. Sat down 5 seconds later and completely forgot what I was thinking about! I’ve been spending 30 minutes now, trying to think of it. ARGH!!

Anyway, I bought a Sun D1000 on ebay, huh huh. I think I’m a little crazy when it comes to unix hardware, but a D1000 for $250 with the rack-mount kit is a good deal! And it is on my to-do list. Its the item to replace my 711 Multipack case. Uses the same drives even. So I got that, a 1U intel box to replace Jeddah.. Now what I need is a Rackmountable tape library and get a rackmountable case for my Gateway. I also bid 50 bucks on 5 more D1000s. Don’t think I’ll get ‘em, but if I do, Hooya! I’ll bankrupt myself filling those things. Also have to move completely to SCSI for file server purposes, cause that would be too damn cool.

My poor poor purple 486 finally died. This was my very first computer. its whopping 800 meg drive finally died. I suppose I could replace the drive, but it’ll be a headache finding a hard drive that the bios could actually interpret. Since I wanted to get a 1U machine to replace this anyway, I saw a decent deal on a 1U Ibm Netfinity dual p3 on ebay. Did the “Buy now” option, and its on its way!

We had some training at work this week on our Corporations “Vision and Strategy” so I am throughly indoctrinated now. Gonna go to NJ next week finally. I haven’t one in a long time. I just get lazy and things seem to pop up. Set up a budget believe it or not. Its just a loose “recommendation” Although it will be rather forcefull. I’m going to have all this automatic investments happening, so I can only spend what I have left in my bank. Hopefully I allocated enough for “Food and Entertainment” We’ll see how that works out…

Again, I did nothing all week. Cleaned up my apartment a little, watched TV, and read. Received a sliding shelf for my rack. I gotta get around to installing that. I did get around to installing the PS/2 adapter for my sparc, and that works on my KVM switch now! Its the little things.

Thinking more about school. Decided if I am still here next summer, I’ll start up at Framingham State.

Going to get braces in about a month. Woulda done it this month, except my car insurance bill popped up out of nowhere. and I gotta maintain my buffer!

Things to do for my rack: (Adding to my to-do list)

- Install sliding shelf to seperate the sparc

- Get a rack-mountable case to replace the Gateway case. I like the Super-Micro cases.

(make sure the gateway MB is standard, I remember that it was)

- Replace Jeddah (login server and all around public IP face) with a 1U rackmount machine. (Jeddah is an old 486 whose video card has to be convinced to stay in, although has a 342 day uptime!)

- Finagle a 2 DLT drive rack mountable tape library (STK L20) somehow.

- Update backup server somehow, either

1. Update the Sun 711 case I have with a rackmountable option

2. Maybe cheaper, Replace the whole thing with a linux box and keep the drives internal. Replacement would have to be purple though

I didn’t so anythnig this week. I love it! I didn’t even go out to go ffod shopping. I just ate ramen and granola bars all week. Sometimes I wish I didn’t like not donig anything, but whatever, I’m happy.

I broke down and bought the Samsung a500 phone. It’s awesome, except for the fact its a SprintPCS phone, but I can deal with it. The phone IS that cool.

I finished part one in the Bourne series, Bourne Identity. The one they made a movie about. There were some vague similarities, but they changed the whole plot and took out the bad guy! But it was different enough to appreciate both as their own stories.

I finished my week of hell. Same as last time, so I won’t rehash my feelings about a “routine” week. Just trying to get back to MY normal timelines.

I bought the Sum of all Fears DVD, and I have to say I really liked that movie. Same director as Sneakers. The DVD has a Director’s commentary where he sits in with Tom Clancy, which is pretty awesome. Clancy is shouting out “BULLSHIT”, or “No way in hell that could happen” , It was pretty entertaining. It wasn’t terribly loyal to the book, but throughout the commentary, the director made a halfway decent case for changing it so much, so I am more OK with it than before. I think i made a journal entry on this issue.

I’m about to finish my last Tom Clancy book, and start on Ludlum. I bought the Bourne series, which I heard was pretty good.
